Peterborough Swim Club Delivers Strong Results at 2026 Huronia Region Team Challenge

The Peterborough Swim Club delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Huronia Region Long Course Team Challenge, held May 28th-31st, 2026 at Brock University in St. Catharines, bringing home 69 medals, multiple club records, and a head-to-head team challenge victory.

The annual regional competition brought together 11 swim clubs from across the Huronia Region, with more than 370 swimmers, over 50 coaches, and more than 70 chaperones participating in the four-day team travel event. Swimmers and staff were accommodated in Brock University's townhouse residences throughout the competition.

Peterborough swimmers showcased their talent and depth throughout the meet, finishing fourth overall in the medal standings. The club's 69 medal haul included 25 gold, 18 silver, and 26 bronze medals.

In addition to their strong overall finish, the Peterborough Swim Club captured the head-to-head team challenge against the Collingwood Clippers Swim Club, earning the right to bring the challenge banner back to Peterborough.

Several club records were also broken during the competition. Benji Korkus established new Peterborough Swim Club records in the 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, and 200m Backstroke events. The boys' 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay team of Austin Renouf-Ewart, Raylan Copeland, Isaac Jones, and Benji Korkus also set a new club record.

"The Huronia Team Challenge is one of the highlights of the season because it brings together swimmers from across the region in a true team environment," said the club’s head coach, Kent Crockower. "Our swimmers demonstrated tremendous commitment, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout the weekend. Finishing with a strong medal count, setting multiple club records, and bringing home the challenge banner are achievements the entire club can be proud of."

The event was hosted at Brock University because the Huronia Region does not currently have access to a 50m competition pool within its boundaries. The 2026 Huronia Region Long Course Team Challenge generated more than $150,000 in revenue for Brock University through facility rentals and accommodations. Additional economic activity was created through local hotels, restaurants, and businesses that welcomed visiting teams and families staying off campus during the event.

The Peterborough Swim Club now turns its attention to the final competitions of the season, including the club's final Orange vs. Blue in-house meet, the 2026 Durham Challenge in Markham, and the Ontario Swimming Championships (OSC) in early July for qualified swimmers.

As the competitive season concludes, the club is also preparing to welcome new swimmers through its summer programming. Programs are available for a variety of ages and ability levels, including the club's new Introduction to Para Swimming Program.
