August 25, 2026

The Peterborough Swim Club continued its successful season with impressive performances at two major competitions over the April 17th-19th weekend. Club swimmers competed at the 2026 Mallards April Long Course Challenge at the Markham Pan Am Centre, while Peterborough’s Masters athletes represented the club at the 2026 Ontario Masters Provincials in Etobicoke.

At the Mallards April Long Course Challenge, Peterborough swimmers showcased speed, determination, and depth against strong competition from across the province. The club earned a total of 22 medals, including 4 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze.

The weekend was also highlighted by four new club records. Owen Stainton set a new Men’s 13–14 long course 50-metre backstroke record with a time of 29.93, breaking the previous 24-year-old mark of 31.22 set by Ryan Gow in 2002.

Benjamin Korkus added three new records in the Men’s 10 & Under long course category. Korkus established a new 400-metre freestyle mark of 5:31.20, surpassing the previous standard of 5:43.45 set by Brent Bidgood in 1991. He also lowered the 100-metre freestyle record with a time of 1:12.99, eclipsing the previous mark of 1:14.64 set by Erik Yuill in 1990, and set a new 200-metre freestyle record of 2:35.43, breaking the former record of 2:41.60 set by Bill Cocks in 1994.

At the Ontario Masters Provincials, several Peterborough Swim Club athletes delivered strong performances against top Masters swimmers from across Ontario.

Stephanie Dancey captured bronze in the 1500 freestyle and added a fourth-place finish in the 800 freestyle.

Lisa Oelke posted several solid swims, highlighted by fifth-place finishes in both the 100 breaststroke and 50 breaststroke.

The results from both meets reflect the continued strength of the Peterborough Swim Club program across all levels, from age-group development to Masters competition, and demonstrate the dedication of the club’s swimmers and coaching staff.
