Aquatic Sport Council Launches White Paper Advocating for Greater Swimming Infrastructure Investment in Ontario
The Aquatic Sport Council of Ontario (ASC) has developed Building More Aquatic Centres in Ontario, a white paper designed to support government and industry stakeholders in planning for Ontario’s future sport and community infrastructure.
The white paper calls for a dedicated provincial fund to support the construction of 50m pools, development of regional recreation centres, and the creation of best practices for design, operations, and revenue generation.
As a member of the ASC, Swim Ontario is proud to advocate with our partner organizations for greater support and funding for Ontario's aquatics industry
”There is an unequal distribution of pools across communities, leaving many Ontarians underserved. Our white paper provides actionable recommendations that will help the province provide equitable pool access for generations to come so that we can inspire the next generation of athletes while increasing access to water-based programming.”
Anne Bell, Chair, Aquatic Sport Council of Ontario
”50m pools bring regional benefits to the swimmers, divers, and others that use the pools, but also to the broader community that benefits from hosting meets and events ... Pools are essential community spaces that promote water safety, physical activity, injury recovery, and mental well-being for people of all ages and abilities.”
Dean Boles, CEO, Swim Ontario
“The launch of Building More Aquatic Centres in Ontario is a step in the right direction for aquatic sports and recreation across the province. Its recommendations will help prepare Ontario for future pool development and the multiple benefits that come along with it.”
Brian Miess, CEO, Lifesaving Society Ontario and ASC spokesperson
